Red or white?

I'm offering this exhaustive and well written history of wine for $15. It's a beautiful hardback edition with glossy pages. It's a fascinating history of wine from the dawn of time to the present day. Buy it and savor it like you would a glass of fine Pinot Noir.

Dear Dr. Monkey,

Greetings from The Book Monkeys!

We wish we could have contacted you directly and privately, but unfortunately we did not find an email address on your blog.

We truly regret to inform you that the name of your online bookstore and blog infringe upon our registered business name “The Book Monkeys,” which is the name of our online bookstore that we have been operating since January 2008 with over 1500 customers in virtually every state and within various countries around the world.

We kindly ask that you take the necessary steps to rename your online bookstore and blog. State and federal law supports our position that confusingly similar names may cause substantial harm to our business.

If you require additional information regarding our legal rights, please let us know how we can best contact to you. If necessary, we will gladly provide you with our business registry number, along with an official “cease and desist” letter.

We hope to find that you have renamed your online bookstore and blog within 10 business days or to hear from you soon.

We also really hope that you will continue selling and blogging about books…just with a different name.

Sincerely,
The Book Monkeys

I invite you to take any and all legal action you feel necessary against me. I am not changing the name of my blog or the name of my business. I intend one day to open an actual bookstore by the name of Book Monkey and there is not a thing you can do about it. I am judgment proof at this point as I have no assets in my name and I have nothing but time on my hands and I am spoiling for a fight, so bring it on.

I will not be bullied by the likes of you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Monkey

Dear Dr. Monkey,

Greetings from The Book Monkeys!

We appreciate your swift response. Like you, we LOVE books and are just trying to protect our bookstore’s name & reputation that we have put so much heart and love into.

Thank you so much for changing the name of your blog from “book monkey” to “book monkey88.” This slight alteration will definitely help both of our customers distinguish our two bookstores from each other.

At The Book Monkeys, a portion of all our book sales are donated to two of our favorite non-profit organizations: Room to Read (an extraordinary organization helping to establish schools, libraries, and educational infrastructure in the developing world: http://www.roomtoread.org) and The Office of Letters and Light (the ambitiously imaginative organizers of National Novel Writing Month & Script Frenzy: http://www.lettersandlight.org/ourevents.php).

In gratitude, we have made a special donation (in honor of book monkey88) to Room to Read. Specifically, we chose their Girls’ Education Program: Cambodia.

With wishes both best & bright,

The Book Monkeys
